Intro
Acetylene gas is produced from Calcium Carbide and Water.
Reaction is as follows :
CaC2 + 2H2O = C2H2 + Ca(OH)2 + 27000 Calories
Acetylene gas generated contains impurities of Sulphur,Phosphorus, arsenic, ammonia etc in form of of hydrides such as Hydrogen Sulphide, Phosphine etc.Such impurities are harmful and detrimental to the end use of Acetylene Gas.These impurities are required to be removed so that Acetylene Gas confirms to IS-308 for Dissolved Acetylene Gas.
The Above mentioned impurities can be removed by passing the Acetylene Gas through specially prepared filter media.
